How do I make a booking?

The best way to make a booking is to email us directly. You can do this via the contact page on this website, or directly to makeupbarhobart@gmail.com.

If you would prefer, you can send us a message on facebook but be aware that we reply to emails and messages during the hours of 9-6 pm only. We strive to get back to you as soon as possible, but our family/friends/clients/eyeballs do appreciate us putting down our phones from time to time. Basically, if you reach out to us at 10 pm on a Sunday night, please don’t stress if we don’t get back to you immediately, we will between the designated hours of 9-6 pm. 


Why isn’t there a phone number listed?

As we are not in the studio for most of the week, a phone number seemed slightly redundant, and in the market research we did prior to opening Makeup Bar, the consensus was that our clients would rather email and message us anyhow. We’re all busy gals, and a game of phone tag is never fun. Also, as there are two of us and we aren’t always together, emails leave a paper trail so that we can see conversations that the other has replied to, and also refer back to for information if we need to remind ourselves of any of your details. If you are a phone person and need clarification or want to have a chat on the phone, we can ORGANIZE to call you at a time that suits. 

Do you require a deposit?

We do require a deposit of 50% of your total invoice to book you in. It is the nature of our industry, and something we have learned over many years is that no deposit usually equals a no-show. This is our full time job and it’s how we pay the bills and put food in our pet’s bowls, so no show clients can really impact us. Your deposit may be refundable within the PARAMETERS mentioned in our “booking 101” page.


WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT?

WE CURRENTLY ACCEPT BANK TRANSFER ONLY FOR DEPOSITS. THE REMAINDER OF YOUR INVOICE CAN BE PAID ON THE DAY OF YOUR BOOKING VIA CASH OR CARD PAYMENT. ALTERNATIVELY, YOU CAN PAY THE ENTIRE AMOUNT BY BANK TRANSFER PRIOR TO THE DAY OF YOUR BOOKING. WE GREATLY APPRECIATE A SCREENSHOT OR ELECTRONIC RECEIPT OF PAYMENT, SO THAT WE CAN UPDATE YOUR INVOICE WITHOUT HAVING TO SIFT THROUGH OUR BANK ACCOUNT (ALSO HIGHLY CONFUSING IF YOUR MUM/FRIEND/PARTNER IS PAYING AND WE DON’T RECOGNIZE THEIR NAME). CARD PAYMENTS ARE MADE THROUGH SQUARE, AND UNFORTUNATELY THIS DOESN’T GIVE US THE OPTION TO MANUALLY ENTER ANY CARD DETAILS IN PERSON OR OVER THE PHONE. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL PAYMENTS AS THE TRANSACTION FEES ARE FAR TOO HIGH, AND ARE NOT SOMETHING WE WANT TO HAVE TO PASS ONTO OUR CLIENTS. 


WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU USE?

WE USE A WIDE RANGE OF MAKEUP AND SKINCARE PRODUCTS THAT WE HAVE SELECTED FOR OUR KITS BASED ON MANY YEARS OF WORK IN THE INDUSTRY. AS WE WORKED FOR A COMBINED 14 YEARS AT MAC, A LARGE MAJORITY OF OUR KITS ARE STOCKED WITH MAC PRODUCTS. THIS IS DUE TO OUR KNOWLEDGE AND TRUST OF THE PRODUCT FOR ITS VERSATILITY AND PERFORMANCE. THE REST OF OUR KITS INCLUDE VARIOUS PRESTIGE BRANDS, SUCH AS NARS, TOM FORD, LA MER, GLOSSIER, CHANEL ETC. REST ASSURED WE WOULD ONLY PUT ON YOUR SKIN A PRODUCT THAT WE WOULD WEAR, TRUST AND BELIEVE IN. 

 

CAN YOU COME TO ME?

MOST DEFINITELY! WE LOVE TO HELP OUR CLIENTS OUT WHERE POSSIBLE AND UNDERSTAND THAT COMING TO US ISN’T ALWAYS THE EASIEST OPTION. OUR CONDITIONS FOR TRAVELLING FROM THE SALON ARE FOR 5+ PEOPLE AND AN INITIAL CALL OUT FEE OF $150 PER HOUR RETURN TRIP. IF YOUR LOCATION IS OVER AN HOUR RETURN, ADDITIONAL FEES APPLY.

THE REASON WE CAP CALL OUTS AT 5+ PEOPLE IS MERELY TO OPTIMIZE OUR TIME. WE HAVE TO PACK DOWN OUR SALON, CHAIRS AND LIGHTS, TRAVEL, SET UP, WORK, PACK UP, TRAVEL AND THEN SET THE SALON BACK UP AGAIN. IT’S SOMETHING WE ARE MORE THAN HAPPY TO DO FOR OUR CLIENTS BUT THE REALITY IS WE DO LOSE TIME WITH OTHER POTENTIAL CLIENTELE OUTSIDE OF THE PHYSICAL MAKEUP HOURS YOU HAVE BOOKED US FOR. THE CALL OUT FEE MERELY COVERS PETROL, PARKING AND CAR DEPRECIATION AND COVERS LESS THAN 25% OF THE USUAL HOURLY RATE THAT WE CHARGE. IT’S AN ICKY BUSINESS TALKING DOLLARS AND NOT OUR PREFERRED TOPIC OF CONVERSATION BUT WE HAVE TO HOLLA FOR A DOLLA.

 

WHAT ARE YOU OPENING HOURS?

WE DON’T HAVE specific OPENING HOURS! WE ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY between the hours of 8 am & 6 pm, WHICH MEANS WE COME TO WORK AND OPEN THE BAR ESPECIALLY FOR YOU! THE REASON BEING THAT UNLIKE MOST OTHER BEAUTY SERVICES THAT CAN BE DONE/REQUESTED THROUGH THE WEEK, MAKEUP AND HAIR STYLING ARE USUALLY A WEEKEND SPECIFIC SERVICE DUE TO MOST EVENTS OCCURRING OVER THE PERIOD OF FRIDAY-SUNDAY. THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT WE DON’T OPERATE DURING THE WEEK, IF YOU NEED US AND WE ARE AVAILABLE, WE WILL BE THERE. If you require us outside of the hours of 8 am & 6 pm we are more than happy to oblige however we charge a $25 surcharge for ever 30 min block outside of 8 am & 6 pm

 

WHERE CAN I PARK?

THERE IS 1 HOUR PARKING ALONG MURRAY STREET FOR $3.20 AN HOUR, OR ALTERNATIVELY THE CENTREPOINT CAR PARK AROUND THE CORNER. IF YOU ARE BOOKED IN FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR SERVICE WE WOULD RECOMMEND PARKING IN THE CENTREPOINT CAR PARK AS THE PARKING INSPECTORS ARE SUPER ON TO IT AND CAN SMELL A TIMED-OUT METER FROM A MILE AWAY. THE 1 HOUR PARKS ARE THE NEW FAN-DANGLED MACHINES AND DON’T ALLOW YOU TO TOP UP YOUR METER, ONCE YOUR HOUR IS UP YOU HAVE TO MOVE YOUR CAR AND PARK IN ANOTHER SPOT.

 

CAN I BRING MY KID/DOG/HUSBAND/FRIEND ALONG TO MY APPOINTMENT?

HOW DOES ACAI BEAUTY SPACE x MAKEUP BAR HOBART WORK?

WE ARE TWO BUSINESS’ UNDER ONE ROOF! DOWNSTAIRS IS MAKEUP BAR HOBART AND UPSTAIRS IS ACAI BEAUTY SPACE. AS A NEW BABY BUSINESS IT CAN BE SUPER HARD STARTING OUT, OUR BEAUTIFUL FRIEND CAITLIN (WHO HAS BEEN AT 31 MURRAY ST, AS ACAI BEAUTY SPACE FOR OVER 5 YEARS) WAS KIND ENOUGH TO GIVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO SET UP SHOP AND SHARE THE SPACE TOGETHER. AS WE ARE TWO SEPARATE BUSINESS’ THIS DOES MEAN THAT CAITLIN DOESN’T DEAL WITH ANYTHING MAKEUP BAR RELATED AND WE DON’T DEAL WITH ANYTHING ACAI RELATED. CAITLIN IS THERE MONDAY – FRIDAY WHICH MEANS IF YOU POP INTO THE BAR AND DISCUSS MAKEUP BAR SERVICES AND MAKING A BOOKING SHE WILL GIVE YOU ONE OF OUR CARDS AND REFER YOU TO OUR WEBSITE.

 

WHEN IS THE PUPPY AT THE SALON?

PEGGY THE PUPPY IS AT THE BAR FROM MONDAY-FRIDAY, SHE’S USUALLY THERE WITH HER MUM CAITLIN AS SHE WORKS. IF YOU HAVE A MONDAY-FRIDAY SERVICE WITH US YOU WILL MOST LIKELY GET SOME PUPPY CUDDLES!
